so more stripping down and cleaning

cleaned up the alloy fly wheel and steel back plate along with the old grey spring and "standard" friction plate.

so onto the reason i started this engine strip. i was thinking that something was not quite right.

Block stripped of everything.

the core plugs were rotten

for anyone interested in the replacement head where the filter would have been.

so decided to sort the threads through even if i just bolt the pipe up direct.

Ok the gearbox came back from washing.
But still had old paint on it and other stuff.

i also had more machining work to do.
need to decide what to do here


also needed to put a thread insert in here

back to the washer on monday.

not quite sure if they understood my request for part of the work which was a shame.

but cleaning up the block and head surfaces they can do and we will see what the crank is like when i pull it out later.

Ok made a move on a bit more get that nut off


then check the MED support will fit without any modification
placed in place without gasket

stripped ready for machining and cleaning

oh and these blind bearing pullers. they work but i would not want to be using them often as they are not great and need some modification.

very little difference. you may find one does not have all the gaskets you need for your original set up.

i see prices that are for fun BUT give me a price for the following. shipping to Mainz.

bare in mind that i have managed for years with out snap-on spanners.

well it is off had to go to M12 and modify an old puller.

not seen these old things for quite some time.

well the engine is out so now the fun starts.

the fun being this. back in 95 after fitting the flywheel i noticed there were no threads on the holes for pulling it off.

Bergi the problem you have is you want longer studs to fit 10mm spacers to S discs.

there are no studs of the correct shape IE will fit the disc and clear the caliper. again dont go grinding the heads down. they do pull through the disc/drive flange due to the change in the metal properties. the length you want to do what you thing you need just dont exist.

dont forget you will need to cut the wings as you are changing the geometry that much by changing the wheel ET by adding 10mm spacer.

right. slight change of plan.

as i have spent the cash on a dog gear set i no longer really need a pre filter. but there was a problem with the bits i wanted. i wanted to fit a oil temp gauge but i also wanted AN8 hose and fitting not AN6 so a chat with DSN lead to a chat to SC with resulted in this delivery. the other bits well my self made welded up rear mounts might be past it now.

right on to the strip down.

front off. need to change the floor fixing as it is in the way.

bolted some other bits together for fun

well not been able to do much as i have been off work with Bronchitis but back at work on Monday so i thought i would put some stuff together as i was bored.
might look at the front-end over the weekend.
